Read DVD! 1.0

Frequently Asked Questions

(FAQ's)

1. I can't play the movies.

DVD movies are encoded in MPEG2. This requires a special decoder that are either hardware or software. We make neither. The sellers of your DVD drive should be able to find you a decoder.

2. In Windows 98, my UDF volumes are read-only.

With Read DVD! they should all be read-only anyway, but there is a problem we're seeing with Write DVD! Windows 98's DVD-ROM driver is interferring with Write DVD!, leaving all UDF volumes read-only. We will be fixing this. Check back with our website for the update.

3. My UDF-formatted hard drive will not be assigned a drive letter.

First of all, only SCSI hard drives are supported. Then they must be marked as "removable." This is done in the device manager. Select your hard drive and there's a checkbox labelled "removable." Check this and restart. Now it will be given a drive letter and be available in "My Computer."
