FormatterOne Pro for DVD on NT 1.0

Frequently Asked Questions

(FAQ's)

1. When can I use UDF in Windows NT?

We are currently working on a UDF filesystem for Windows NT. We will release a new version of FormatterOne Pro for DVD on NT in the second quarter of 1999. For now, we only recommend formatting disks in FAT16.

2. Why is the removable drive letter disappearing?

There is a problem with our services. Please turn them off to stop the disappearing drive letter problem. In Control Panels is "Services". Select "SAI Service" and press the "startup" button. Select "disable", save it, and restart.

3. Does FormatterOne Pro for DVD on NT support CD-R or CD-RW?

FormatterOne Pro for DVD on NT only writes to DVD-RAM drives, SCSI hard drives and removable media drives like Zip/Jaz, SyQuest, and magneto-opticals. DVD-RAM drives can read CD-R and CD-RW disks, but the drive itself cannot write to them.

4. I can't play DVD-Video movies.

DVD movies disks are in the UDF format. There is currently no UDF support for Windows NT. We expect to release a UDF filesystem for Windows NT in March.

DVD movies are also encoded in MPEG2. This requires a special decoder that are either hardware or software. We make neither. The sellers of your DVD drive should be able to find you a decoder.

5. Can I format in FAT32?

Windows NT does not support FAT32. Winternals provides FAT32 support for Windows NT. We are currently working on a problem with them and FAT32-formatted DVD-RAM disks. For now, please only format DVD-RAM disks in FAT16.
