Format UDF!
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can I only create a UDF volume on a DVD-RAM drive?
Format UDF! can create a UDF volume on DVD-RAM drives, SCSI hard drives or removable media drives (Zip/Jaz, SyQuest, or magneto-optical).
2. Why can't I create more than one UDF partition on my drive?
The UDF specification only allows for a single partition on a drive. You cannot have multiple UDF partitions or mixed partitions of UDF and FAT16 on a single drive.
3. Does Format UDF! support CD-R or CD-RW?
Format UDF! only writes to DVD-RAM drives, SCSI hard drives and removable media drives like Zip/Jaz, SyQuest, and magneto-opticals. DVD-RAM drives can read CD-R and CD-RW disks, but the drive itself cannot write to them.
4. I can't play the movies.
DVD movies are encoded in MPEG2. This requires a special decoder that is either hardware or software. We make neither. The sellers of your DVD drive should be able to find you a decoder.
We've had a very difficult time getting MPEG2 decoders to work with DVD-RAM drives. The decoder companies often have updates to their software. Please contact them for support.
5. Can I format in FAT32?
Yes, a free update (version 1.2.4) on our website adds FAT32 formatting.
6. In Windows 98, my UDF volumes are read-only.
Early releases of Write DVD! only supported Windows 95. Windows 98's DVD-ROM driver is interferring with Write DVD!, leaving all UDF volumes read-only. The free update on our website supports Windows 98.
