PD Pack 1.0.8

Frequently Asked Questions

(FAQ's)

1. Why can't I hear any sound from audio CD's?

Make sure that you have speakers or headphones plugged into the CD-ROM drives. Audio sound is different from computer data and goes through a different connector than the SCSI cable. You can run a audio cable from the external CD-ROM drives and play through your internal speakers with some Apple computers (all the newer ones) it's best to check with Apple as to which ones can do this.

2. Do I need to take out the Apple CD-ROM Extension?

Do you have an Apple CD-ROM? If so then don't take out the Apple CD-ROM Extension, if you don't have an Apple CD-ROM then it is ok to take it out.

3. Can I play my CD plus or I-Trax CD's?

Our software is perfectly capable of handling this extended format CD's but not all CD-ROM drives are. If you are having a problem with some of the extended format CD's then you might want to call the CD-ROM drive manufacturer to see if there have been updates to the hardware.

4. Cartridges do not mount on the desktop.

Make sure the PD Pack INIT Extension is in the Extensions folder and is controlling the drive. Remove any older SCSI driver extensions.

5. Will FormatterOne Pro work with Zip/Jaz drives?

No, this version of FormatterOne Pro will only work with PD Media. The full version of FormatterOne Pro will, as will DOS Mounter 95 or FormatterFive 3.0.

6. Will PD Pack work with Mac OS 8.1?

Yes, PD Pack 1.0.8 supports OS 8.1, but lacks HFS+ formatting or mounting of HFS+-formatted PD cartridges.

7. I just bought a new cartridge and I want to know how long it will take to format?

It takes between 5 to 10 minutes per 100 megabytes (mostly depends on the speed of the drive) a 650MB cartridge will take about an hour to format. Of course you really seldom need to format a disk. Just "Installing" a partition on it is usually enough to make it ready for use. Most disks come pre-low level formatted from the factory and don't need to be re-low level formatted the second you take it out of the box.

8. It says I can't format because there are files open on the device.

Turn off file sharing. Also make sure you are not trying to format the drive you booted off of (FormatterOne Pro won't let you). Best of all, restart the machine with the extensions off, FormatterOne Pro does not need a extension to be able to format a device and this way you know that nothing will be interfering.
