1. My CD Changer is not working since I have updated to System 7.6.
The new Apple CD-ROM extension was updated to support all CD drives, even CD Changers, as normal, single-slot CD drives. Changing the order wouldn't help because as of this writing the latest version of the Apple CD-ROM extension wouldn't load if it was loaded after our CD Mounter Plus for Changers extension. This is a bug Apple is aware of and working on.
If your only CD-ROM drive is a CD Changer, than just turn off the Apple CD-ROM extension with either Extensions Manager, Conflict Catcher, or just remove it manually from the extensions folder.
If you have an internal CD-ROM drive and a CD-ROM Changer than you will need to switch back to your previous version of the Apple CD-ROM extension that you used before you upgraded to System 7.6.
This problem does not exist in OS 8.0 and 8.1. The Apple CD-ROM returned to only supporting drives from Apple. This version supports OS 8.1, though the cache volume can only be formatted in HFS Standard.
2. Why can't I hear any sound from audio CD's?
When playing an audio CD in an external CD drive, you will need to have
speakers connected to that device. Make sure that you have speakers or
headphones plugged in to the CD-ROM drives. Audio sound is different from
computer data and goes through a different connector than the SCSI cable.
3. Can I play my CD plus or I-Trax CD's?
Our software is perfectly capable of handling these extended format CD's but not all CD-ROM drives are. If you are having a problem with some of the extended format CD's then you might want to call the CD-ROM drive manufacturer to see if there have been updates to the hardware.
4. Can I hook up more than one changer to my machine?
Yes, but you will need version 1.4.2 or later of CD Mounter Plus for Changers. It's available from our upgrade page.
5. What is the best way to set up the cache?
There is no one way that is best. Different machines and setups required different levels of caching. Generally it is better to set the cache settings high and then work them down to a level that seems comfortable without using too much RAM.
If you have multiple CD Changers than you set the cache separately for each CD Changer.
Do not use a HFS+ (Extended Format) drive as the cache drive. Our caching only works on HFS Standard volumes. Caching to a HFS+ volume will cause copying problems and crashes.
6. The CD Changer swaps disks at what seems like random times.
This is a result of how the Mac OS was designed and how some programs were written. They often want to know what disks are mounted, what their names are, how big of a volume they are, etc. Make sure you have version 1.3 or later and your cache settings are set high enough to cache all the directory data. Upgrading is done at our upgrade page.
