With Apple's Disc Burner and other software for CD-RW discs to make even the smallest modification, each time you have to copy everything on the CD-RW disk to your hard drive, make the changes, erase the disk, then burn the entire disk over again. However, this is not what CD-RW media was invented and designed for. It was developed to be rewritten to just like a floppy.
WriteCD-RW!'s interface seamlessly integrates the CD-R/W drive and media with the Mac desktop so files can be saved on the fly easily by dragging and dropping them onto the drive icon or by saving them from within your application. I have a mastering product, why do I need WriteCD-RW?
Other products for CD-RW are mastering products mainly for making audio disks and are not meant for data storage. Write CD-RW! complements, and does not replace, pre-mastering software. Write CD-RW! is useful for incrementally adding small (or large) amounts of data to your disk. You can save files directly to your CD from Finder or Explorer or directly from your spreadsheet, word processing or other application.
You should use a mastering product if you want to create or distribute audio or multimedia discs. Write CD-RW! is designed to record data files rather than audio tracks. (But you can record audio files, such as .MP3, WAV or AIFF files using Write CD-RW!. These will be treated as data files, and will not play on a standard audio CD player.)
FixUDF!TM V2 Features and Benefits
FixUDF!, the world's first diagnostic & repair utility for UDF disks has been improved. Now version 2.0 enables files to be copied from damaged disks to your hard so they may be recovered. FixUDF!TM can also quickly determine the format type (UDF or other), the UDF version, and if the format is compliant with OSTA guidelines. ReadCD-MRW! Features and Benefits
CD-RW disks formatted in your new “Mt. Rainier” CD-MRW format are not readable in legacy, non-Mt. Rainier drives. The Mt. Rainier Format uses the UDF File System, but imposes special rules and restrictions on where data is physically layed out/stored on the disk and where disk defects are re-directed. These rules and restrictions are intended to make the disc more reliable and to help extend the life of a CD-RW disk which has an advertised maximum of 1,000 overwrites. Apple does not provide these readers!
ReadCD-MRW! enables non Mt. Rainier CD-RW drives and DVD-ROM and CD-ROM drives to mount these disks and to interpret this layout so files can be read.
When a CD-RW disk formatted in the “Mt. Rainier” CD-MRW format is placed in a standard CD-ROM, CD-RW or DVD-ROM drive, the reader driver automatically recognizes the disk and presents the data portion to the desktop as a “read only” UDF format disk. If a CD-RW disk is formatted in any other format, the ReadCD-MRW! driver will allow other software to handle the disk. The software is compatible with most popular mastering applications for CD-RW.
