SAI ANNOUNCES WORLD’S FIRST DRIVE LETTER ACCESS UTILITY TO SUPPORT HITACHI DVD “MULTI” DRIVES ON MS WINDOWS

Software Architects, Inc., the world’s first and leading supplier of disk drive utility software that uses the Universal Disk Format (UDF), announced the commercial release of WriteDVD!™ Pro v4.1 for MS Windows..

In addition to supporting first generation DVD-R/W, DVD+R/W and DVD-RAM/R drives and media, Version 4.1 now supports next generation multi-function recordable DVD drives recently announced by Hitachi. DVD “multi” drives promoted by the DVD Forum are designed to support a broad range of optical media to address the number one problem with recordable DVD: lack of a single media standard.

Single Solution for All Optical Media Formats
Version 4.1 provides a “drive letter access” interface for mastering and writing to all types of optical recording media specified for use in DVD “Multi” drives. This includes DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD-R, CD-RW, and DVD-RAM media. In addition, the software also supports mastering and writing to competing DVD+R/W drives. The software also supports reading and writing new “Mt. Rainier” format CD-RW discs that are not compatible with standard drives and software.

“WriteDVD! solves the biggest problem in optical recording”, said Robert Zollo, president of SAI. “Users get a single software utility that mounts and reads all UDF format discs and writes to all recordable optical media with a single drive letter interface that they can drag & drop files to. They can use WriteDVD! for both DVD-R/+R mastering and writing to DVD-RAM, DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs.

Prevents Device Driver Conflicts
SAI’s integrated UDF architecture provides the user with a single, easy-to-use, “drag and drop” interface that reliably operates regardless of the type of disk inserted into the drive. This prevents driver conflicts and file system queuing problems that commonly occur when using different software programs to run DVD-R/W, DVD+R/W, DVD-RAM/R and CD-RW drives and media on the same computer system.

Supports Mastering and Packet Writing
Version 4.1 provides mastering of files as well as packet writing and block addressable writing to recordable DVD media. All writing modes are performed through the Drive Letter Access for convenience. Version 4.1 adds support for “Quick Format”, “Quick Grow” and partial disk mastering on DVD-R/W drives.

Supports DVD Video Recording Formats
Version 4.1 also supports advanced “Real Time Recording” functions used in new DVD-RAM disk based video camcorders made by Hitachi, and DVD-RAM disk based video recorders made by Panasonic and other DVD Forum companies. Real time recording optimizes reads and writes of video files to disk by emulating sequential recording on the random access, block addressable DVD-RAM media.

Key Features:

  • “Drag & Drop” interface integrated with Windows Explorer™
  • Copy, arrange and remove files from DVD-R volume prior to finishing the disk
  • Advanced, “multi-threaded” architecture allows user to run other applications while DVD-R disk is being mastered in the background
  • Saves recording time by supporting “partial writing” to DVD-R, DVD+R and CD-R discs
  • Supports “Quick Grow” and Quick Format” features for faster DVD-RW use
  • Formats in all versions of UDF to ensure disk interchange with all desktop operating systems: UDF v1.02, v1.5, v2.0, v2.01
