Closer proximity to important Japanese market strengthens and expands SAI’s customer relationships

Bothell, WA... Software Architects, Inc. (“SAI”), the world leader in file systems, format and device driver technology for personal computer storage, announces its opening of a Branch Office in Tokyo, Japan.

“The mega-trend of digital convergence between personal computing and consumer electronics is creating a very large growth potential for removable disk drives” said Robert Zollo, President of SAI. "Japan is the leading market for developing and building new technology storage devices and future digital appliances. Japanese customers are also the first in the world to adopt these exciting new products. SAI is opening a branch office in Tokyo to be close to this leading edge market and to improve technical support to our key OEM partners.”

SAI has been a part of this important market for over a decade, and is a leading supplier of utility software to Japanese disk drive and digital camera manufacturers. The company’s new Tokyo Branch Office will build upon this long-standing relationship by providing a local base from which to service existing and potential new OEM partners, and end-user customers of its software products. In addition, SAI will be better positioned to become true ground-floor partners with OEMs in the development of new products, and to gain entry to other product divisions within existing OEM partnerships.

The opening of SAI’s new Japanese office fulfills a key part of the company’s growth strategy. “Opening a Branch Office in Sasazuka, in the heart of Tokyo’s “Bit Valley”, will position us amongst many of our Japanese partners, and will enable SAI to offer them the advantage of local support”, says Robert Zollo, President of SAI. “Our new office is a demonstration of our long term commitment to the important Japanese market” he adds. "The office will be staffed with local experts who will provide customer and technical support to OEMs and key business customers. SAI will additionally build a local “mirror” website in Tokyo to make it more convenient for Japanese customers to access information and download software updates. This will complement customer support currently provided by ACT2, SAI’s Japanese retail software distribution partner.

The company and its technology
SAI is the world leader in UDF file system and format technology. This technology is specified by the DVD Forum as the only disk format for use on DVD disks to ensure disk interchange between varying computer systems and between different manufacturer’s consumer devices. SAI was the first company to commercialize this technology for DVD-RAM, DVD-R , MO, Hard Disk Drives and other storage devices used on personal computers, medical imaging systems and network area storage (NAS) devices. All leading manufacturers of recordable DVD drives, including Hitachi, Matsushita, Pioneer, and Toshiba, and leading manufacturers of Mageto Optical (MO) drives such as Sony, have licensed SAI’s UDF technology and utility software.

SAI is also a leading technology supplier in the fast growth digital camera category. The company has been a software supplier to digital camera OEM since 1989. SAI’s patented VistaMax™ digital image enhancement technology provides “real time” color enhancement on PC’s to provide superior digital photos for consumers and professionals. SAI has licensed this technology to Nikon in the U.S. for use with their award winning Coolpix™ digital cameras.
