SAI ships GreatVideo!™ v1.5 Recordable DVD Video File Converter for Apple Systems

Utility provides one step DVD video file mastering to any type of recordable DVD disc. Converts recorded DVD Video(“.VRO”) files to 21 video formats.

Software Architects, Inc., the world’s first and leading supplier of disk drive utilities that use the Universal Disk Format (UDF), announced first shipment of GreatVideo!™ DVD Video File Converter v1.5 for Apple PowerMac™ systems.

Create DVD video discs on any brand of Recordable DVD Drive
GreatVideo! v1.5 is the world’s first and only software application that allows users to create consumer DVD video player compatible DVD discs on third party recordable DVD drives. Version 1.5 supports Pioneer, Panasonic, Hitachi, Toshiba, Sony and other recordable DVD drives, using DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD-R and CD-RW discs. Video is recorded in DVD Forum compliant mpeg-2 compressed .VOB format. “GreatVideo! v1.5 enables Mac users to create DVD video discs on legacy Mac systems using any DVD Forum compliant disk drive,” said Robert Zollo, President of SAI. “This enables the 20 million + legacy Apple systems to be used for DVD video disc creation”.

Enabling Digital Convergence Between Consumer DVD Video Recorders and Mac Systems
Version 1.5 provides everything a user needs to download, convert and use video files recorded from consumer DVD video recorders and camcorders on an Apple™ computer system. Unlike standard movie DVD discs that use the VOB file format, DVD video recorders record live video to VR file format, a slightly different format specified by the DVD Forum for this application. GreatVideo! is the first software application in the world to mount, read and copy recordable VR formatted DVD discs on a Mac system to QuickTime™ video formats for editing, authoring and mastering on a Mac system. Apple has focused on providing the best DVD video creation and mastering software for making discs playable on consumer DVD players. GreatVideo! provides complementary capability by supporting movement of video recorded on consumer DVD video recorders to Apple Systems for editing and other use.

Powerful and Easy to Use
In addition to one step DVD video disc creation, GreatVideo! performs “drag & drop” conversion of “.VRO” format DVD video recording files to 21 industry standard video file formats, including Sorenson, Motion JPEG and Intel Indeo Video.

Until now, converting video files recorded on DVD camcorders and video recorders into Mac OS friendly formats, used by most video editing and authoring applications, has been a problem. The Mac OS UDF file system reader does not support UDF v2.01 and VR formats. Apple DVD mastering software such as iDVD™ only supports Apple Superdrive™ versions of DVD-R/W drives.

Great Video! supports all classes of third party recordable DVD drives, including DVD-RAM/R, DVD-R/W, DVD+R/W and the new DVD “Multi” combination drives. It also supports writing out data files with the same iconic “drag & drop” interface.

Great Video! uses QuickTime™ as a conversion platform to convert files to traditional video formats readable by most popular video editing, authoring and playing software, including Apple Final Cut Pro™ and Adobe Premier™.

Advanced Features
The GreatVideo!™ Converter Utility allows the user to convert to any of the 21 video formats including Sorenson™, Motion JPEG, Intel Indeo Video, and raw video formats. Advanced features include selecting the compression rate, number of key frames per second, bit rate, and color as allowed by specific video formats.

Compliant with Industry Standards
GreatVideo! is compliant with DVD Forum specifications for Real Time Recording DVD Video Files (VRO video files), and the OSTA(Optical Storage Technology Association) specifications for UDF formats. Version 1.5 supports all DVD Forum specification drives, media and formats.
