Software Architects, Inc. (SAI), market leader in DVD utilities, and Wired Inc., experts in MPEG encoding and decoding technology, announced today DVD-RAM TuneUp - the utility that provides Macintosh users everything they need to read and write to a DVD-RAM drive has been upgraded to add support for the popular Wired 4DVD for MPEG and DVD playback card.
DVD-RAM TuneUp provides true "plug and play" support for all DVD-RAM drives including SCSI and ATAPI versions. The utility comes with a context-sensitive device driver called SmartDVD (TM) which enables a DVD-RAM drive to read from CD-ROM, CD-Audio, CD-R, CD-RW and Video CD disks as well as DVD-ROM and DVD Video disks. The utility also includes the WriteDVD! (TM) UDF file system that reads DVD disks formatted in the new UDF format specified for DVD movies and other published titles on DVD-ROM disk. The file system and device driver have been adapted to fully support Wired's popular DVD playback card for Macintosh systems.
DVD-RAM TuneUp's WriteDVD! (TM) technology contains a special application called FormatUDF! that formats media for UDF as well as HFS standard or HFS+. An extra feature with DVD-RAM TuneUp is the disk acceleration cache that improves performance by an average of 175% when reading files after they have been read into the RAM or hard disk cache. This feature is especially valuable when running interactive multimedia titles or using the DVD-RAM drive for general computer purposes.
Wired 4DVD is a PCI decoder card which provides high-quality playback of DVDs and MPEG files on your Macintosh computer screen. Combined with a DVD-RAM drive as well as DVD-RAM TuneUp software from SAI, Wired's PCI card can turn a Macintosh computer running Mac OS 8.1 or higher into a full-featured DVD player that utilizes all of the enhanced digital video and Dolby digital surround-sound capabilities offered by the DVD format.
"The multimedia possibilities emerging as a result of the collaborative efforts of SAI and Wired as well as the leading manufacturers of DVD-RAM drives are immense..." comments Robert Zollo, president of SAI. "For the first time, it is possible to combine video, audio, still images and text together on a single DVD-RAM disk (the size of a CD) and be able to give a seamless multimedia presentation anywhere in the world using any laptop or computer equipped with the latest DVD-ROM or DVD-RAM drive."
Thomas Burke, president of Wired, Inc agrees and adds: "Wired 4DVD is certainly the most comprehensive solution for DVD-ROM and MPEG playback on a Macintosh. We are pleased to be working with SAI to extend this capability to DVD-RAM."
