UDF File Systems and Formats

SAI was the original pioneer in developing and licensing UDF file systems and software that use the Universal Disk Format ("UDF") file system. As the co-author of the original UDF file system specification with Hewlett Packard, SAI was instrumental in making UDF the de facto industry standard format for optical media, including DVD, Blu-ray, MO, CD and UDO discs, as well as an International standard (ISO 13346, Ecma 167). The UDF Format provides a universal standard for removable media that, when implemented properly, ensures interoperability and long term file access across operating systems and media types.

SAI offers a variety of software utilities and Software Developer Toolkits (SDK's) for commercial use of the UDF file system. Millions of products containing SAI's UDF file system have shipped in the past 12 years as components to computer based systems, consumer electronics products, and as part of specialized commercial products serving a wide variety of industries.

Our UDF SDK's are 100% OSTA compliant. SAI is the only company that makes this claim. ("OSTA" stands for the Optical Storage Technology Association, the organization that publishes and maintains the UDF specification and implementation guidelines).

SAI has adapted our UDF technology for use on hard disk drives and flash memory, as well as for all types of optical recording media. SAI UDF is the most reliable and commercially proven UDF file system available. Unlike other vendors, SAI has developed and maintained its UDF file system code with its own staff and owns all rights to the source code. We provide the lowest risk approach to integrating UDF technology in commercial products.

Anaconda™ Permanent File Recording Technology

Session level and file level recorded file history browsing and access of recorded optical media. Recover any version of any file written to disc, even if deleted by the user.

SAI has been a pioneer in developing and licensing "write once" file systems for archival applications. Our patented Anaconda™ file writing technology provides the surest software technology for protecting the accidental or intentional loss of files recorded to optical disc.

IntelligentDisk™ Technology

SAI has pioneered the development of self booting "intelligent" optical discs that contain an entire operating system on disc, as well as file storage, to facilitate secure mobile computing on removable media.

Digital Imaging Technology

VistaMax™ Image Enhancement

SAI has been a pioneer in digital imaging since 1989, when it partnered with Canon to develop the worldÕs first digital camera input and editing software for Apple Computers. SAI's patented VistaMax image enhancement technology provides high speed on-screen image display and color correction that automatically recovers lost color gamut values for the highest quality, truest digital images possible on a personal computer.

Everplay™ Multi-media Play List Management Technology

SAI has been a co-author of the original MPV specification that has evolved into the Everplay Initiative specification for multi-media play lists. Originally published by Kodak, Fuji Film and Konica-Minolta for the photographic industry, Everplay has evolved into the ideal standard for storing, distributing and displaying multi media play lists on disc, flash drive, on the web and on consumer electronics products. As the developer and licensor of the official Everplay compliance test software, SAI is the expert in developing software that complies with this specification.

Audio/Video Technology

High Definition Video Codec

SAI offers a proprietary h.264 codec that provides very high quality conversion of video files for use and/or playback on PC's and other devices with video display.

Digital Video Conversion

SAI has developed a digital video conversion engine based on QuickTime™ that provides the means to quickly convert and optimize video files for use on iPod, iTouch, iMovie, and Apple TV.
