Windows UDF Developer Toolkits

Overview

SAI is the original and leading supplier of UDF software developer toolkits for CE, IT and other commercial applications. For over 12 years leading OEM and systems integrators have utilized SAI's UDF technology to rapidly implement reliable and compliant UDF based products.

"UDF"stands for "Universal Disk Format" which is a specification based on two international standards (ISO 13346 and Ecma 167). The UDF implementation specifications are published by the Optical Storage Technology Association ("OSTA"). For more information on UDF please see: www.osta.org.

We offer two standard types of UDF SDK's and two specialized versions that support a variety of operating systems, storage devices and media types.

An overview of each type of SDK is shown below, followed by more detailed information on each type and variant of the SDK:

System Level Toolkit Overview

The UDF "System Level" Toolkit is designed to quickly and easily integrate formatting, reading and writing in OSTA compliant UDF from your proprietary application. Widely used for general and specialized Windows based application, this is the original UDF developer toolkit that has been in commercial use since 1997.

The Toolkit consists of an installable UDF file system driver, a formatting module in .dll format, documentation, sample code, and a development license.

The Toolkit components support standard Windows 32 API calls. The software is written in C++ with a plain C "wrapper". The file system supports all published UDF versions, including 1.02, 1.5, 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.5 and 2.6 for a wide variety of storage devices.

The installable file system driver will present the device as a drive letter in Windows Explorer. The formatting .dll is designed for easy integration into your application, so there is a single interface for all functions designed by you.

The file system supports packet writing, session writing and direct block writing methods, depending on the media type and the UDF version selected.

The System Level Toolkit supports DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-RAM, MO, UDO-1, UDO-2, BD-R, BD-RE and a variety of block addressable devices, including most hard disk drives and USB flash memory devices.

OSTA

The UDF format created by the software is 100% OSTA UDF compliant, which ensures readability on an OSTA UDF compliant system. ( "OSTA " stands for the Optical Storage Technology Association, the organization that publishes and maintains the UDF specification. For more information contact: www.osta.org).

System Requirement

Intel or AMD based PC's running MS Windows XP service pack 2 or later, Windows 2003 Server, Windows Vista desktop, and Windows 2008 server.

Application Level Toolkit Overview

The UDF "Application Level" Toolkit is designed to provide developers experienced in file systems to have complete control over file system operations where performance or writing methods need to be customized for the application. With over 125 API calls to the file system, developers can optimize the file system for their specific application and target system. This Toolkit has been in commercial use since 1997.

The Toolkit consists of the read/write UDF file system, the formatting module, sample code, documentation and a development license.

The Toolkit software is written in C++ with a plain C "wrapper". The file system supports all published UDF versions, including 1.02, 1.5, 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.5 and 2.6 for a wide variety of storage devices.
