ReadDVD! for Mac

ReadDVD! for Mac OS X

Question #1 (updated 4/6/09): What versions of the Mac OS does ReadDVD! support?

ReadDVD! for Mac OS X has been updated to support Mac OS 10.5.5. It now supports Mac OS 10.4.x thru 10.5.5. There is no need to go through an Uninstall process to update from your previous version of ReadDVD! - the latest installer will install over the previous version, automatically replacing or deleting older modules. (Please notice that the new installation process now requires a two step process: first installing the FUSE file system component, then installing the latest ReadDVD! component.)

Question #2 (updated 4/6/09): Will ReadDVD! allow me to play my video files recorded to DVD-R or DVD-RAM discs on my consumer DVD video recorder or camcorder?

Consumer video recorders & camcorders typically record video files in the "VR" or "video recording" format for DVD. This is a different format than standard DVD movie discs that is not supported by most computer operating systems.
To play these video files on your Mac or PC, you must first "mount" the disc so it is readable by Mac OS X or Windows XP or Vista.
ReadDVD! provides the software to mount the DVD-R and DVD-RAM discs so they are recognizable in Mac Finder or Windows Explorer.

NOTE: You still need a video player application that can read VR format files and play them on your computer; OR you will need a software application that converts VR format video files to a format your computer recognizes. For Mac users, SAI offers GreatVideo! Digital Video Convertor for Mac OS X. This product includes the ReadDVD! reader software that mounts the disc in Finder running Mac OS X; and also includes the GreatVideo! convertor application that allows you to convert VR format video file to any QuickTime compatible video format for playback using the Apple Movie Player.
